4 Outdoor Details Buyers Notice Before Entering Your House

When you’re trying to sell your house, you probably focus more on the home’s layout and the interior design elements to make it look elevated and attractive. While those are extremely important, you can’t neglect that first impressions matter. Before a buyer even enters your home, they’re already judging it from the outside and scrutinizing every detail of your exterior.

How your home looks from the outside can make or break your sale, so it’s crucial to pour as much love into your exterior as you do the rooms inside the house. Here are four factors most buyers notice right away.

Table of Contents

Toggle
  • The Paint on Your Exterior Walls
  • The Condition of the Driveway
  • The State of the Lawn or Garden
  • How the Front Door and Entryway Look

The Paint on Your Exterior Walls

One of the first things anyone will notice about a house is the paint on its outer walls. And we’re not just talking about the color of the house. It’s also the quality of the exterior. If your home’s paint job is faded or chipped, it makes it feel unkempt, giving off the impression that the entire house is in poor condition.

Give your home a fresh coat of paint to make it look fresh, polished, and well-maintained. Feel free to play around with plenty of welcoming exterior paint colors, from soothing neutrals to eye-catching pops of color.

    The Condition of the Driveway

Another way to boost your home’s curb appeal is by ensuring your driveway is in terrific condition. Buyers will immediately notice an unevenly paved driveway, especially if they drive into your home to check it out. Cracks and oil stains definitely won’t help either. If you see any of this type of damage, patch them up to ensure they look presentable before potential buyers come over. You might also want to consider hiring a pressure washing service to make it as clean and pristine as possible.

The State of the Lawn or Garden

Your lawn makes up a massive part of your home’s exterior, so it will for sure catch any buyer’s eye when they walk up to the house. Ensure it’s well-maintained, especially if you have a garden. There shouldn’t be any tall weeds, overgrown shrubs, or bare patches in the lawn, as these can plummet your home’s visual appeal and make it look uncared for.

Before buyers see the home, mow the lawn, trim any bushes, and care for all your plants and flowers. If you live in a city with extreme weather that makes landscaping difficult, consider hiring a service familiar with your area.

For example, gardening can be a headache if you’re selling a house in Omaha, NE, where the temperatures can either be extremely hot or freezing cold. In that case, bring in a professional team that can do excellent landscape maintenance in Omaha, no matter the season.

How the Front Door and Entryway Look

Your front door sets the tone for the rest of your home, so this area must look inviting and welcoming. If the door is cracked and faded, it can leave a negative impression on your buyer.  If your front door is in a poor state, refresh it with a new coat of paint or even replace it altogether.

Breathe life into the entryway by adding charming elements like front door plants or a rustic, cozy welcome mat. These details might feel minute and insignificant, but they make a world of difference in creating a positive atmosphere as the buyer enters the house.

          Endnote

From your garden to your front door, buyers are already making mental notes about plenty of outdoor features to assess whether or not they’re interested in your house. Every detail of your home’s exterior plays a part in the outcome of your sale.

If you want to seal the deal, make sure your property looks fantastic from the outside. Repaint your walls, maintain your garden nicely, and ensure the windows and doors are in excellent condition. When your home is in great shape from the outside, buyers will feel more in tune with your property before they even set foot in it.
