The bright sunny days of summer offer plenty of opportunities to host barbecues and lounge by the pool. However, the rising temperature also provides the ideal conditions for tackling home improvement projects.

Forecasts reveal that summer 2024 will be unusually hot for most U.S. states. The year’s first heat wave has already begun in parts of the South, with scorching temperatures forecasted from Texas to Florida for much of the week.

Summer, this year, could also be hot and sticky in Michigan. The temperature in April averaged three to five degrees warmer than normal. Much of the state is expecting an early May heatwave, with temperatures as high as 15 degrees above average by the end of the week.

Whether you live in Florida, Texas, or Michigan, now is the perfect time to give your home a TLC. Here, we’ll discuss some simple home improvement projects that you can try this summer without breaking the bank.

#1 Repaint Your Deck

Decks take a lot of beating in winter. Snow and ice damage them, especially if they are made of wood. When wooden decks are exposed to moisture for a long time, mold and mildew grow on them.

Spruce up your deck this summer season by repainting it. A fresh coat of paint or stain will revitalize your dull deck, making it perfect for holding barbecue parties.

Repainting your deck will also help cover cracks and splinters, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and making it friendly for bare feet. Go for oil-based acrylic paint for your deck. It’s highly durable and protects the interiors from water and scratches.

Remember, the key to a beautiful finish is proper prepping. Hence, make sure you spend sufficient time stripping off the old finish and cleaning the deck’s surface before you get down to the task of painting.

#2 Refinish Your Kitchen Countertop

The kitchen is the heart of the home. Why not give it a quick makeover this summer season? Kitchen refinishing, New Finish LLC explains, is an efficient and cost-effective way to enhance the overall look, value, and functionality of the space.

When it comes to refinishing, updating the countertop can really invigorate the space. Summer is the perfect time to update your kitchen countertop because the days are long. The refinishing task will be completed way quicker than it would in other seasons.

Moreover, refinishing the countertop is a dusty business. You need to keep your door and windows open to ventilate odors and dust. This is only possible in summer when the weather is warmer, and there is no fear of snow or cold winds entering the house and disrupting the renovation process.

Take, for example, Michigan. Experts predict that summer temperatures across Michigan will be three to four degrees higher than average from June to August. As per the forecast, the temperature in Northern Michigan might be four degrees above average.

If you’re a resident of Michigan, June will be the right time to upgrade your countertop. However, be sure to hire a Michigan refinishing company since updating your countertop isn’t a DIY job.

Make sure to choose a company that specializes in countertop refinishing and boasts a good amount of experience. The professionals of such a company bring a wealth of expertise to the table, ensuring that each aspect is handled with care and precision.

Ask your neighbors and friends for recommendations on refinishing companies in Michigan, but don’t forget to do your own research. Check reviews on the internet before you hire any company for the refinishing task.

#3 Check Gutters

Checking gutters isn’t a fun DIY home improvement project, but it’s important. It will protect your home as well as the foundation of your property from summer storms.

Rainy spring after the winter season can really take a toll on the downspouts and gutters of your home. Ignoring them for too long will result in costly repairs. Or, even worse, you might have to deal with foundation damage, driveway cracks, interior flooding, and landscape erosion.

Repairing your gutters will cost you more than cleaning them. Save your hard-earned money by cleaning them before heavy rains hit the country.

To get started, you need a gutter-cleaning attachment for your garden hose, a gutter scoop, a bucket, a ladder, and a pair of heavy-duty gloves. If you don’t have the attachment, you’ll have to buy one. However, you can rent one from your neighbor if they have one.

To prevent leaves and debris from accumulating in the gutter, consider buying a gutter guard. It will save you from the task of cleaning your gutters every now and then.

To wrap things up, summer is an ideal time to tackle home improvement projects due to the longer days and warmer weather.

From refreshing outdoor decks to cleaning your gutters, there are numerous opportunities to refresh your space. Tackling these projects in summer will enhance your home’s aesthetic appeal as well as improve functionality. Hence, grab your tools and get ready to cross off those summer home-improvement projects from your list!
